Best movie I have seen in years! The documentary style is very, very well done. It's great to see the New Zealand perspective on sci-fi rather than the American, which is what we usually get. The movies a lot about racism and politics. The special effects are fantastic and the writing is snappy. The main character progresses beautifully throughout the course of the movie and by the end, you'll be hooked. Defiantly worth a watch.

This movie is a metaphor of the regime of apartheid that once existed in South Africa. Filmed in South Africa with South African actors (except for a couple of very short scenes), I didn't have high expectations. I was pleasantly surprised. If this movie had been filmed as an action movie it would probably have turned out something like the really bad C grade movie Delta Force. Filmed in documentary style it provided me with a very entertaining 90 minutes or so.
The story is about a group of alien insect species who have the misfortune to have their ship break down near Earth. The main human protagonist is a "typical" public servant who believes what he is doing is the right thing (because the aliens are only prawns after all). Without a sufficiently advanced technology on Earth to repair the damage, the aliens are forced to live on Earth while they try to repair the ship themselves. The United Nations outsource the management of the aliens to a private corporation that controls the aliens in atrocious conditions under an apartheid-like regime. The corporation is at the same time vivisecting and studying the insects to learn how they control their powerful alien weaponry in order to profit from the use and sale of the weapons.
All in all a good movie.

It is amusing that you got all the way through the movie and still didn't realise it was set in South Africa not New Zealand.
