In the 1960s, Frances 'Baby' Houseman, a sweet daddy's girl, goes to a very respectable summer camp in the Catskills. Her wealthy family expects her to fit in and make friends of their own class, especially a promising student who works there as a 'camp counselor', but she soon looses her heart to Johnny Castle, the hunky but penny-less dance teacher, whom she has a change to spend lots of time with, even at his place with other poor friends, when his partner for the annual demonstration is indisposed. In fact Baby has to beg her dad, an MD, to help Johnny's girls when she's butchered in an amateur abortion - he does, but forbids her to see him. Johnny can only take care of his girl if he wins the contest, which is impossible without Baby. Which loyalty and values will she choose in the end?

a beautiful movie filled with stuff that is so true to life and real situations. baby is being taught to dance by patrick swayzi (can not remember the name of his character in the movie now) and what occurs is a blossoming romance that turns this movie in to one of the greatest dance flicks of all time. the chereography i amazing and the story will stay with you for a long time to come. note for parents: this contains adult themes

one of the best movies ever although it does look a little dated now, its easy to watch over and over again the story, love, romance, drama and songs and dance sequences get you in every time. its the bad guy gets the good girl act thats never quite been done as well again after dirty dancing. always a great watch.

Classic film with everything needed to make a masterpiece: love, music and of course, dancing! I was plesantly surprised that this movie wasn't only about dancing: they dealed with very serious issues such as abortion as well. truely inspiring film: watch it

Dirty Dancing is the ultimate retro film - who doesnt love the final dance to ive had the time of my life?? I love this movie it is so cool, a little dated but it is the best movie about the old school days of summer that you will ever see - it is a must see movie

wow, this film is a real classic, literally one of those real must sees! its around in a lot of the pop culture these days, with the classic like "nobody puts baby in the corner". its got some lovely dance scenes in it too, and the romance is really breath taking! excellent stuff, everyone i know loves this film and you will too.

This of course is one of the best movies to come out of the 80s. 9 out of 10 people have seen it and most probably loved it - even if they dont want to admit it even the guys do - there is something about the story - everybody likes to see the good guy with the bad rep get the girl. they have tried to use it again but its just not the same. This ones a definate for the home collection although its probably already in 98% of home dvd collections! still great even after youve seen it more than a few times.

Thank goodness for the chance to replace my well watched VHS copy of this for one on DVD! With a soundtrack to die for, great dancing and amazing jobs done by both Patrick Swazye and Jennifer Gray, this is the story of first love when Baby goes to a summer lodge and meets the georgous male dancer, with whom she learns to dance in order to save his career...until her father finds out.... one to keep and watch again

When it was released in 1987, Dirty Dancing was a cultural phenomenon, and it hasn't faded in spite of the fact that it's dated and that the dancing, never really, really dirty, doesn't seem dirty at all, by today's standards.
Patrick Swayze plays a dance instructor pretty-boy at the Catskills resort where Jennifer Grey is vacationing, as she's done every year, with her traditional family. They fall in love (or at least in lust), of course, and of course her father doesn't approve and sees to it that the guy is fired in order to denigrate him in the eyes of everyone and separate him from Grey.
All this is predictable enough, but Grey and Swayze have chemistry, and boy, do they put on some sexy moves with their dancing. If you've never seen it, you're in for a treat. Just put your cynicism and modern worldliness on hold and let yourself be sucked into the spirit of the film. Enjoy it.

CLASSIC 1987 romantic flick, with the CLASSIC title song "I've Had the Time of My Life" by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes that won an Oscar for Best Original Song.

Love story set in 1963 where working class bad boy and Latin dance instructor Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze --- what ever happened to him?) hooks up with Frances "Baby" Houseman (Jennifer Grey) - wealthy, liberal feminist...

fun...
