High above the city of LA a team of terrorists has seized a building, taken hostages, and declared war. But one man has managed to escape detection...an off-duty cop. He's alone...tired...and the only chance anyone has. Bruce Willis stars as New York City Detective John McClane, newly arrived in Los Angeles to spend the Christmas holiday with his estranged wife (Bonnie Bedelia). But as McClane waits for his wife's office party to break-up, terrorists seize control of the building. While the terrorist leader, Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman) and his savage henchman (Alexander Godunov) round up hostages, McClane slips away unnoticed. Armed with only a service revolver and his cunning, McClane launches his own one-man war. A crackling thriller from beginning to end, DIE HARD explodes with heartstopping suspense.

Perhaps little slow by today standards, "Die Hard" is best enjoyed when viewed as one of the best action movies to come out of the 80s. Big explosions, gore, swearing and a smattering of corny remarks and inappropriate times - all of the hallmarks of 80s action movies are there. Bruce Willis plays his role with his usual cool-as-a-cucumber style and viewing this film now is a great way to see Bruce in a tough-guy role that he doesn't really take up as often these days.
One of the many action films to make it out of the 80's and still be as enjoyable today, Die Hard is a movie about a cop who goes to his wives christmas function, only to have it taken under seige by a group planning on robbing it's vault. Filled to the brim with action and thrills, Die Hard will please fans of the sequels it produced, and action films in general.
New York cop John McCLane flies to Los Angeles on Christmas eve to spend the holidays with his family. He arrives at the Nakatomi corp. building for his wife's office party. International terrorists take over the building and hold every one as hostage to steel $600 million of bonds from the vaults of the building. Now its up to McCLane to face the terrorists and save his wife and the other hostages.
Ill have to agree with the previous reviewer that it was one of the greatesta citons back in the days and in my opinion it still is by far, easily the best of the trilogy (though the whole trilogy is great), alan rickman makes for one wicked bad guy as hes done on a regular basis
I remember when this was released at the cinema - it had that guy from Moonlighting starring as an action hero - "Please," I thought, "that's not gonna work." Oh, how wrong I was...
Full of profanity and violence, this is one of the best action films of the 1980s, with John McClane fighting single handedly against a bunch of European terrorists who have taken over the Nakatomi high rise building. Alan Rickman is great as the leader of the baddies - and walking across broken glass will never be the same again...
