Multi-Award winning Sharpe is one of the most spectacular and successful action-drama movie series ever made. Based on Bernard Cornwells best-selling novels and set in 19th century Spain during the Napoleonic wars, these fast-moving, hard-hitting action adventures bring to the screen all the danger, intrigue and romance of one of the bloodiest periods in the history of warfare. Featuring a fantastic cast including acclaimed actor Sean Bean as Sharpe, the heroic soldier wed all want on our side, each movie will leave you wanting more.
Fishpond got this to me in record time. Great series, highly entertaining and recommended for anyone who likes good old adventure stories. Probably boring for today's microsecond attention-span audiences though. Sharpe's Waterloo is a bit sad for anyone who gets too attached to the main characters.
This is a great box set, takes up a lot less space in the DVD rack than individual discs. very good adaptations of the books Sean Bean makes a great Richard Sharpe
I purchased this collection for my husband, who has really enjoyed the books.
I remember seeing some of these on tv when they were first produced, and found that I still enjoyed seeing them now.
These are good reproductions of the books. Obviously plots and story lines have had to be tightened up a bit to fit into the time, but I think they are still quite faithful to the originals.
Beautifully produced. Sean Bean is perfect as Sharpe, and it is great to see so many of the other characters brought to life.
So far have only watched the first 3 episodes - but they have all been excellent and are very true to the "Sharpe" novels by Bernard Cornwell. Really looking forward to the rest of the episodes.
If you enjoyed any of the Sharpe series when it was shown on TV, or if you are intertesed in Napoleonic Military History, this series has got to be a must. The acting is excellent, from the main chararcter, right through the cameo roles, down to the foot soldiers. The atmosphere is just as you'd expect with the 'scum of the earth' (Wellington's opinion, not mine) in red uniforms led by a group of incompetent fops who had purchased their commissions. The uniforms and weapons are accurate and spectacular. As you would expect from a Rifle Brigade, most of the combat scenes reflect small scale engagements. But when the action moves to major battles these are also well handled. Well worth its price.
excellent series, very well done historically and a very enjoyable viewing experience. sean bean was a great choice for the part as shatrpe is a rough character and he plays it well.
