Fawlty Towers is a classic piece of British Comedy. They have the formula right! With a combination of slapstick and wit the writers have produced a timeless comedy series, that 30 years later, still brings tears of laughter. It's easy to watch and you don't have to have seen previous episodes to pick up the thread. With clever dialogue and excellent timing this appeals to both adults and children alike.
This is one of the best British Comedies ever made. Even though there was only a small number of episodes made, I can watch it over and over. After getting the DVD's and seeing the story behind the series, it was even more enjoyable.
Only two series of six episodes (Series One – 1975, Series Two – 1979) were ever made including classics such as The Hotel Inspectors, The Germans, and Waldorf Salad. The shows were originally broadcast on BBC2 and there are often repeat showings on the BBC and on channels such as UK Gold. But why wait? You can of course buy the DVD box set and watch them whenever you choose.
This is one of the funniest british comedies I've seen! Being 19, I had only heard references to it but it has to be seen to be believed.
While you can sit and just watch episodes randomly, watching them chronologically makes much more sense. I saw 'Don't mention the war' some time ago, but after seeing the other episodes it was 10 times as funny. It was almost painful watching Fawlty try to get out of most of the situations.
This movie is hilarious. I have never laughed so much ever. It has great acting, affects, dialogue, and especially superb humour – everything you need in a great movie. The movie does have a few scenes that drag out but all in all it’s a must have for all comedy fans and is suitable for basically all ages. Buy it – You definitely won’t be disappointed..
this is a great tv show. we watched this in media studies, and it is hilariously funny. john cleese is great, so funny, and the other characters are hilarious. i loved the quotes, especially the ones said by manuel. such a great tv show, a real people pleaser, no matter what kind of person you are!!
Based on an actual hotel Cleese and the MP gang stayed at once, Fawlty Towers is a hilarious British sitcom with great characters and situations. Probably the most famous episode is the one with the Germans, as I hear it referred to the most.
Basil Fawlty (Cleese) is a grumpy hotel manager, with his domineering wife Sybil, the hotel maid Polly (co-creator and Cleese's wife at the time of the show Connie Booth), the Spanish waiter Manuel ("I learned classical Spanish, not this strange dialect he's using"), and the hotel's longest standing resident, the Major. Witty dialogue and hilarious slapstick situations make this a great show.
ha haa, now when mr fawlty says this you really are in tears, nobody does true comedy like the English, why did they only do one season? because you can't better perfection, not even Bazil fawlty could, you must watch them all
