The Departed was a real let down for me, but i had hugely high expectations due to absolutely loving Infernal Affairs, and hearing all the oscar buzz about this adapation. Its a good Scorcese flick, but not as good as some will have you believe. Not in the mold of Goodfellas in my opinion. Di Caprio again shows what a fine actor he is with another superb performance, and Wahlberg is great in support. I was really put off by Nicholson though, he needs to retire. Reasonable fare but go for IA instead.
Though he bagged an Oscar for "The Departed" it is not Martin Scorsese's best film - but it comes pretty close. This is a superb film, combining the plots of all three of the Hong Kong "Infernal Affairs: films in one, with some deletions and some additions. The cast is superb (it's great seeing Nicholson and Winstone together), the script twisits and turns so many times, but so enertainingly and so suspensefully that it never loses you. A wonderful film that stands (and calls for) repeated viewings.
