Based on one of the greatest plays of the twentieth century, The Crucible takes place in Massachusetts in 1692. In the small Puritan town, where ones life is dedicated to the service of God, several teenage girls are discovered in the woods and are accused of engaging in the devils work. As time goes by the village becomes consumed by cries of witchcraft. One by one, the blameless victims of this mass hysteria are torn from their homes and families. The Crucible is a critically praised, suspenseful and intriguing cinematic event starring Academy Awardwinner Daniel Day-Lewis and two-time Academy Award nominee Winona Ryder. Together with the excellent performances given by the all-star supporting cast, the powerful story of passion, jealousy, paranoia, betrayal and evil come to life in this highly charged and exciting film.

4 of 5 Stars! – Customer review on 30/01/2011

This is a great film more a period piece than a horror though. Back when Winona could give a good performance haha.
It is a well done film showing the shocking lunacy and illogical thought of early american puritanical settlers. Amazing that America came into being the country it is today really. So if you are looking for an action packed witch burning horror this will not appease your appetite, but if you want a historical look into one of the worlds worst witch cases in history this is definitly a movie to watch.

4 of 5 Stars! – Customer review on 29/04/2006

BAsed on Arthur Miller's searing play about the historical Salem Witch Hunts where jealosy and narrowmindedness were inflamed into mass hysteria with neighbor turning against neighbor and friend against friend when accusations of witchcraft are raised in the puritanical settlement of Salem. The story is powerful and this is a strong adaptation with excellent performances.

1 of 5 Stars! – Customer review on 19/04/2006

i hate film. I hated the book also so maybe thats the problem and i cant really comment on the adaptation qualities of this feature. But the story of the book just sucks, ok you have the nice love story and devoted good guy who is willing to die for the cause but the annoying witchhunt aspects are just so unrelatable and irritating i couldnt look past them
