In 20 Years, Women are Infertile. No Children. No Future. No Hope. But all that can change in a Heartbeat.
Children of Men envisages a world one generation from now that has fallen into anarchy on the heels of an infertility defect in the population. The world’s youngest citizen has just died at 18, and humankind is facing the likelihood of its own extinction.
Set against a backdrop of London torn apart by violence and warring nationalistic sects, Children of Men follows disillusioned bureaucrat Theo (Owen) as he becomes an unlikely champion of Earth’s survival. When the planet’s last remaining hope is threatened, this reluctant activist is forced to face his own demons and protect her from certain peril.

This film is not only an excellent story (not just a "futuristic thing about babies") exploring the power-play between a government and its rebels...and the people in between. I cannot get over just how realistic this film is to watch - beautiful and thoughtful attention to detail.
This black, realistic story is intelligently scripted, brilliantly directed and well acted - Clive Owens, always good, has rarely been better.
The realistic plot creates suspense and keeps you guessing right until the last few seconds. You become involved with characters and the situations they find themselves in. Rare in this type of movie.
Even though the story is somewhat 'Orwellian' it is underlined by a subtle sense of humour, Michael Cain is excellent as the "born again hippy", you find yourself laughing one moment and in the the grip of suspense the next.
If you want the usual 'run of mill' Hollywood SF then watch a Michael Bay movie - short on character, have unbelievable stories and where too many special effects is never enough. This intelligent movie 'The children of Men' will not be for you.
This is a futuristic thing about babies or something.... I really don't know... trying to watch this movie is painful if not displeasing. Don't get me wrong there are those of us out there who thoroughly enjoy this movie but I am not one of those people.
The movie drags it feet tediously grinding on and on regarding a born child to a woman the first in forever. Set in the 70's Doctor Who era where England is nothing but rubble and tired old men throwing stones at each other gives the movie its over all feel... boring.
But if your into that doom and gloom feel and you want to sit around for hours while life passes you by then this is a sure thing.
