In 1966 - pop music's finest era - a bunch of ramshackle DJs play rock & pop 24 hours a day, broadcasting from Radio Rock, a pirate radio station in the North Sea. On board arrives 18 year old Carl, who is instantly plunged into a series of hilarious and life-changing adventures and misadventures. His mother thought the boat would straighten him out - a spectacular mistake! From Richard Curtis (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Love Actually) The Boat that Rocked is a brilliant comedy featuring the best pop music ever made and an all-star cast led by Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Nighy, Nick Frost, Rhys Ifans & Kenneth Branagh.

This film is so good! As soon as I saw it I rushed out to buy it on DVD because I knew I'd watch it again and again. Richard Curtis deviated from his usual style here by writing the bare minimum of the script and letting the actors improvise the rest, and the result was so much funnier. The entire cast of this film was absolutely amazing and the story Curtis' best yet.
The soundtrack, an essential part of the film, boasted some of the best songs from the sixties, including the Small Faces, the Kinks and Leonard Cohen. I would definitely reccommend purchasing the DVD and watching the deleted scenes, which unfortunately include some of the funniest moments in the film. The actors were mostly recognised comedians such as Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz), Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill, Danny Deckchair), Chris O'Dowd (The IT Crowd) and even Philip Seymour Hoffman (Charlie Wilson's War). The end result was stunning comedy and a smashing good yarn.
I'm regretting watching this when I was tired and had a few wines - I think if I gave it another go the next day when more awake I would have appreciated it more! Some great people in the film, you're classic funny guys, and although they were all on this boat together, they made they're characters very unique, with their own type of funny. Found the strong english accents a tad hard to follow at times, but all round a fun movie. Will watch again some other time!
