I think the book is better (and actually, even the mid 90s film version is a little better than this one) but as a film for kids this isn't too bad. There are a few too many shots of the horse running around (though maybe the kids will like that) and it also gets a little talky in places, but it's still passable entertainment (but encourage the kids to read the book too at least).
