Who wants to cook Aloo Gobi when you can bend a ball like Beckham?
Eighteen year-old Jess’s parents want her to be a nice, conventional Indian girl. But she just wants to play football like her hero, David Beckham. For Jess, that means kicking a ball around the local park with the lads until she’s spotted by Jules, who invites her to join the local women’s football team. The girls are the same age and they share the same dreams. As they become firm friends, their team really starts to go places. But Jess’s parents don’t understand why she won’t settle down, study for law school and learn to cook the perfect chapatti. Why, they wonder, can’t she be more like her sister, Pinky, who’s engaged to a very suitable young man? If they only knew what Pinky gets up to… Jules dreams of playing pro-football in the United States, but her Mum wishes she could be a bit more girlie – how is she ever going to find a boyfriend if she won’t put on a dress? What her Mum doesn’t know is that Jules isn’t interested in playing the field – she’s just after one man, Joe, but being the team coach, Joe is out of bounds.

But her farther finds in his heart to let his daughter play and she ends up with her couch.
i really like this movie. It has such a great storyline, it can be funny but also has a drama side to it. Also if oyu like soccer im guessing you will like this one as it has many soccer scenes. I would have to give it a ten out of ten, just cause there isnt anything bad about it.
if you like socer wacht this. its a movie about culter and love and beliving in ur goal. i like this amovie because it has a sad momont and happy but the sad are not to sad so you wnont need the tissue. it a very good movie, you will enjoy it.
A comedy about bending the rules to reach your goal, Bend It Like Beckham explores the world of women's football, from kick-abouts in the park to freekicks in the Final. Set in Hounslow, West London and Hamburg, the film follows two 18 year olds with their hearts set on a future in professional soccer. Heart-stopping talent doesn't seem to be enough when your parents want you to hang up your football boots, find a nice boyfriend and learn to cook the perfect chapatti.
this is a truely up lifting film about a girl who was born in to a strict indian family and whose only wish is to play soccer for england. she sneaks off to play soccer with a local girl's team and eventually makes it big. keira knightley makes an apperance here, and is worth watching before she got famous
Bend it like Beckham is an uplifting film that will inspire and uplift you. This is a smart, funny and thought provoking film with a likeable heroine you just want to root for. I urge every mother to give her daughter this DVD for a birthday, Christmas or graduation gift. I think they'll thank you for it.
Bend it Like Beckham follows Jess, a young British girl of Indian descent on her quest to become a soccer player like her idol David Beckham. She strives for this goal despite the disapproval of her traditional Indian parents who want her to conform to traditional Indian culture. I love how the movie explores the changing cultures between the generations of family. She perseveres despite numerous familial and social obstacles and in the end achieves her dream. There are a lot of funny moments in this movie; I don't want to give too much away THIS MOVIE IS TOO GOOD TO SPOIL.
I love this movie; this is how movies should be made. The cinematography in this movie is amazing; the camera disappears and we see real life transpiring on screen. The entire cast disappears into their characters becoming real people you care about. Look for Keira Knightley in a supporting role.
A Shawn James five star essential movie. Definitely get this movie along with the wonderful Muriel's Wedding, a great Australian film that follows a similar type heroine on her journey.
Great movie which i used to be obsessed with and watch all the time, it is about a young indian girl who has a passion for football which she happens to be really good at, but her family frowns upon her playing and forbid her to carry on playing.
It is a funny movie and is especially suitable for teenage girls that like soccer. Jonathan Rhys Meyers is also very good looking in it!
this is a pretty good movie, tells of an indian girl wanting to break some molds and play soccer. along the way, she manages to disappoint her family on her quest to play like david beckham. the humour gets a bit tiresome after a couple of watches, but nevertheless this is rather a classic for any teen girl.
Pretty good film :) Soccer-mad girls will especially love this film which portrays an indian girl struggling against tradition to succeed in the man's world of football. Introducing Keira Knightly who does a pretty good job as a tomboy in this film. A feel-good movie probably enjoyed more by the chicks. Recommend it!
Gurinder Chadha's lovely film "Bend it Like Beckham" tells the story of a young Sikh girl in Great Britian who longs to play professional football - only her family have another idea about how she should live her life... Very similar to Billy Elliot, with its low key British sense of humour and its uplifting story... also stars the drop dead gorgeous Keira Knightley...
