Despite its age, and the fact that Japanese animation is becoming more and more popular, Akira is one of the most well known anime out there. A young man who is picked on and left out is taken by a group off scientist who unlock the power of telekinesis within him. Now with the power to get back at those who shunned him, his powers rage out of control with disasterous results. Fans of Japanese anime must see this.

This movie is so good it should not be missed by anyone. Ground breaking animation and a more unique storyline than prehaps the synopsis leads you to believe, that both hold up extremely well for its age. A real classic.
This special version is interesting as it contains both the original english dub and the redubed Madman version. The new version is miles ahead of the original and makes a lot more sense than the original as well. I would steer well clear of the original unless you saw it in the original VHS and want a little nostalgia.

This is a totally awesome movie. Highly recommended for fans of Manga and even those who have not seen much manga!! It surprises me to find that a lot of modern day manga fans have not watched this, as it is a seminal piece of art!! I would say that this, along with Astro Boy, was one of the first really popular manga seen in the western world. There have been lots of copies of this idea / art. You should see this!!

The movie that thrust the japanese anime art to the world. It might loose you in some places but it is the fantastic art work that is the real star of this fantastic film.If you have seen the original then this release might be strange for some of the actual lines of the characters have changed.Do not be affected by drugs or alchohol while watching this movie,it is confusing as it is without being in an altered state of mind.(then again it might make more sence)

I never really found this anime compelling, and I think that the animation style has aged quite a bit. It deals with what have become anime staples these days- people developing super powers, sickly kids with strange abilities and dark adgendas, that sort of thing. If you can get past what feels like cliche there is something here, but whether it is something you like is a different question.

The movie that started it all.A fantastic example of twisted jap anime that once you start to understand the story it flips on you. Some of the scenes are mind blowing for the detail in each cell was amazing.Story revolves around two friends in a biker gang, then starts to centre on the one with powers. After a showdown between the two former friends we come to see that the fate in one is to set the fate in the other.
