The experimental journey ship Aknathen has left the Space Orbital Laboratories on a confidential testing voyage. It is armed with the ultimate gravitational weapon called XG Blast (!). The spaceship detects an energy spectrum identical to the one emitted by the prototype weapon it is carrying. Upon launching an investigation, Aknathen is sucked through a wormhole and into a dimension full of aggressive alien life forms bent on taking the weapon for themselves. You guessed it! You are charged with the task of blasting your way back to base, taking on scores of enemies as you go, as you seek to uncover the source of the mysterious signal.
XG Blast! (don't forget the exclamation mark!) has the classic feel of other retro shooters with more modern accoutrements, such as maps with alternate routes to victory, and a host of multi-player features. In Survival Mode, you get to choose an unlocked zone and accelerate to warp speed as you try and survive as long as you can. In Discovery Mode, you enter the arena with a multitude of enemies, gather huge power-ups and experience the intriguing story mode throughout the campaign. Also, for the first time ever, XG Blast! lets players battle across a variety of maps in multiplayer modes such as Double Dream Co-op mode and Full War death matches.

One gripe I have is the layout, I wish the action was on the top screen so I could aim my shots with the stylus on the bottom screen. Instead they have the action on the touch screen and you can use the stylus to aim shots, but it kinda just gets in your way. Geometry wars' control scheme is definitely alot better, but you can get used to pushing the X Y B A buttons to direct your shots, its really not that bad. I use something called a "Thylus" which is a stylus that wraps around my thumb and makes games like geometry wars and the Call of Duty games on the DS, WAY easier and almost feels like playing with an actual analog stick with your thumb instead of awkwardly holding the DS standard stylus.
