S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Radioactive Edition brings Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat together in one box.
First up: Clear Sky.
In 2011, a group of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.S. managed to get near Chernobyl NPP for the first time, and brings about a cataclysm on the brink of a catastrophe. An immense blow out of anomalous energy changes the exclusion zone, covering hitherto safe paths with deadly anomalies. The daredevils who seek out new paths realise that they have the opportunity to go where no S.T.A.L.K.E.R. had gone before and explore untouched mountains of artefacts. The now regular emissions, which continue to rock the Zone to its core, provide the backdrop for a struggle for power, which will go on to be known as the Faction Wars. The reckless fighting of 'all against all' obliterated the previous balance of force, and it is in these circumstances that an unknown mercenary was able to affect the course of events.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky is a tactical first-person game of engagement set within the irradiated expanses of the Zone. This blighted and dangerous area, emanating from the ruins of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, is home to freaks of nature, echoes of humanity, and a mercenary, a S.T.A.L.K.E.R., who must struggle to uncover a troubled past even as the zone fights to protect a terrible future.
Then we've got Call of Pripyat.
Usually it's not pleasant to be in the company of a stalker. But for the Russian government, secret agent Major Degtyarev is a pretty dependable chap to fall back on when the chips are down. Following the events in Shadow of Chernobyl, the government discovers an open path to the Zone's core, in which they conduct a large-scale military operation to take the CNPP under control.
The mission fails and no intel is available to determine what really happened to the troops. Degtyarev ? an experienced stalker that is able to poach items and data that can fetch a high price on the black market ? is sent into the Zone to collect information on the mission and discover the truth.
And what is the Zone, exactly? It's a contaminated area that is close by the the Chernobyl disaster site ? a desolate landscape with treacherous changing environments and even deadlier foes in the form of rival stalkers. Weather hazards are a problem and dynamically change during the day or night, which means Degtyarev needs to ensure his route to the truth is as safe as possible.
The world is set up in a non-linear fashion, with over 70 missions to tackle and extended side-quests to keep your stalker status alive. New mutant monsters in the Chimera and Burer offer a significant challenge to the ardent S.T.A.L.K.E.R fan, and once you're done with the story there's an opportunity to continue the game in a freeplay mode.
