It barely seems that long ago that Professor Layton was exploring the Curious Village of his first game, and already here's another one to delver more of the same charming puzzle-based gameplay that made the first so popular. And this time there is more to explore, greater danger are even more brain teasing puzzles to be solved: 150 compared with 120 last time around. And there's a third game on its way too. What's more codes obtained in games one and three will unlock hidden features in this title.
This time around, the Professor and Luke are invited to visit by Layton's mentor, Dr Schrader, who says he has acquired the Elysian box, which kills anyone who opens it. Dr Schrader is excited by this idea, and says he will soon open the box. Layton and Luke arrive to find Schrader dead, and they board the Molentary Express train in ordder to solve the mystery of his death.
As in the first game, you take Professor Layton and his sidekick Luke on an adventure to explore a comic book style world full of bizarre characters and challenging puzzles. These take the form of maths problems, riddles, optical puzzles, logic problems and block-sliding brain teasers. But compared to the former game, there is more of everything, including more animated cartoon cut-scenes. Each puzzle completed not only takes you closer to solving the whole mystery, but it also unlocks a special reward.
And once you've completed the game, it keeps on giving, with one new free puzzle a week to download via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

Just a warning for those considering buying this game: Fishpond may end up shipping you the US version instead, which is called "Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box". While the differences between the two are largely cosmetic (i.e. the one-word change in the title to reflect Nintendo US's concern that most Americans wouldn't know the myth of Pandora's Box), it may cause confusion for people who don't know about this. Consider yourself warned!
I'm really looking forward to this game. The original - Professor Layton and the Curious Village was a fantastic game, featuring many puzzles and riddles with a nice graphical art style. If you ever see the original around for a good price in a bargain bin, grab it. Not quite sure why this version of the game is title 'Pandora's Box', not 'Diabolical Box' as it is titled in other regions, but that is a minor issue.
This is a good item i would recommend it to people all over the world. Ps3 has the best games out and i have played many of there games and cant wait for the new generation of gaming systems to come out. With the portable controls and the unbelievable graphis i give this an 7 out of 10.
I love Professor Layton Games, I have both Pandora's Box and The Curious Village. I have completed both games & I love the puzzles. My kids are now taking turns in playing them & they're just as hooked as I am. Looking forward to more games in the Professor Layton Series.
Great game challenges are varied great for blowing out the cobwebs over the summer holidays, my 14yr old daughter received this for Christmas, and it has been well used. Would consider buying the original once this has been completed.
