Gotta Catch ‘Em All! Except you don’t have to this time, as Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky follows on from its Explorers of Time and Darkness episodes in letting you play the role of a pocket monster. After filling in a questionnaire you assume the role of one of twenty-one playable Pokémon, and you get to choose another to partner up with, including new additions Phanpy, Vulpix, Riolu, Shinx and Eevee.
With your band of merry creatures in tow, you explore the land and investigate dungeons to uncover the truth about what lies ahead for the world around you. Turn-based battles with menacing enemy Pokémon makes you keep on your toes as not every corner harbours a friendly face. Speaking of which, over 490 Pokémon can be seen and befriended here, including recently discovered Shaymin.
The game presents a fresh challenge every time you play, with no set maps for each dungeon. Instead, the layout of each stage changes every time you enter, so over time you’re going to need the help of plenty more Pokémon to fend off wild enemies. If you are down for the count, you can ask for the help of a nearby friend using the DS Wireless Connection, or a faraway one using the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. If you explore together, anyone who falls and is rescued by friends will get to keep their collected money and items!
On top of this, playing wirelessly with friends adds more benefits, such as additional missions and the ability to send a demo of the game to another DS or DSi.
