A bit of a waste of money really. With ps2 it was more necessary to have a remote control for watching dvds, but since the ps3 controller is wireless theres not really the same need to have a separate remote control. If you watch lots of blu ray discs then perhaps its necessary, or if you choose the ps3 as a blu ray device rather than using it for its gaming ability.

This remote is useful for one-handed operation of PlayTV and DVDs. Other than that, it appears to lack some functionality of the sixaxis controller. For example, you can't use the ABC iView app with this remote, it requires the analog stick (like a mouse) to navigate the website, and buttons like PLAY are useless. That is, a lot of these 'apps' and 'customised websites' are only customised in the sense the fonts are large, they do NOT accept many BD Remote commands. It is very difficult to meaningfully control the cursor in the internet browser. Maybe a couple of accelerometers or an additional D-pad to control the cursor would have been good.
Also, there are NOT VOLUME controls on this remote, you need to go into the menu to change the volume, which is one of the most convoluted methods I have ever seen of ANY product, let alone the PS3.

This is a typical Sony remote control, which is to say, it's functional but not exactly the epitome of design. It contains the usual set of buttons, laid out neatly in several rows, which is efficient but not particularly user friendly, since you have to squint to look at the text to see what you're pressing, rather than being able to "feel" your way around. If you use your PS3 to watch movies a lot, this is worth it, but do check out some of the other 3rd party offerings even though you will need a dongle to use them.

I think this remote is not so necessary as you can simply use your controller. Really Sony should just give for free....
