Every month of the year there are jobs to do on a small Australian farm. Fruit ripens, lambs are born, hay is harvested. 'A Year on our Farm' shows the passing of the seasons through the eyes of the children for whom the farm and all its animals is home. This delightful picture book won the Children's Book Council of Australia award for Book of the Year: Early Childhood.

This is a fantastic book. Great illustrations and text which combine to give a month by month snap shot into what can happen on an Australian farm. By it's very nature of showing real life occurences it gives the opportunity to discuss things like the weather, where kittens come from and why goose eggs go rotten! Gorgeous Australian book - there should be more like it!
This is a great book for preschoolers. Especially good since it's written in Australia so the seasons correspond to ours here in NZ. Most other children's farm books i've seen are usa or uk based. My children really enjoyed this book, especially since we live on a farm so they can understand from experience some of the things these children did in the book. Also good for children who are learning to read for themselves. We wore out our first copy of this since we loved it so much- will definitely be buying this again!
Fantastic for children learning about life on a farm, but also wider things they can relate to like the weather and seasonal changes. The book is not really a story book, it is very long so not for the really young. It has lots of information on each page and the adult will need to guide the child in their understanding.
