Although the tone and context are now a little dated, this book still resonates, mostly through the powere of its key idea expressed in the title. I thought I knew what it would say, but was still touched and surprised by the way it said it.
What can I say about a book that has defined a stream of pastoral theory and practice. Nouwen inivites his readers to explore their own areas of brokeness. Be warned, that exploration can be painful and challenging. When we encounter our own woundedness and examine its roots and effects, we have the ability to connect to the sufferning of others. Nouwen reminds us God came as a human and entered into our suffering--in doing so, the Divine connected with us through woundedness. If we do the work of Christ, should we not attempt to do the same?
Another thin and yet profound book of Nouwen's.
