The core rulebook for all the world of darkness roleplaying games, World of Darkness is equally a life lived in the dark, as a mortal, before becoming one of the supernatural. As such, it has an element of personal horror haunting its pages. This is the scratching sound coming from behind the wall, the man dressed in black watching you from across the street, the cat hissing when there is nothing there. Its capacity to establish this mood is palpable, and the artwork matches this. The section on ghosts felt slightly rushed however, and one hopes whether White Wolf produces something of the quality of its former title, Wraith: the Oblivion.
