This stands as a very good criticism of a lot of unreasoned or otherwise baseless beliefs or practises.

A very interesting book, especially for students of psychology or philosophy. I was surprised to find Stephen J. Gould writing an introduction to a book called 'Why People Believe Weird Things' given that he himself seems to make agressive (and poorly reasoned) resistance against evolutionary interpretations of human behavioural psychology.

A bit ironic, but maybe that's partly why they asked him to write an intro. Otherwise, he's a superb biologist, up there with Dawkins.
