Although an excellent book on its own, as a follow on to the Tomorrow Series it really cannot compare. It begins with the familiar action and emotion present in the Tomorrow Series, however the middle is bogged down in life on the farm. The sense of fear from across the border is not always adequately portrayed and sometimes it is easy to forget that there is still a threat from an enemy. However, ignoring the Tomorrow Series, as a stand alone book it is excellent. And true Marsden style even is it is not entirely true Ellie style.

The beginning of a spin off series from The "Tomorrow" books. While the book has a lot of merit on it's own, it lacks the power and momentum of the tomorrow series. As a big fan of the series, I found it disappointing. I haven't read the rest of the Eliie Chronicles yet, although I hope to some day.

this was one of the most powerful books i have read for a long time. I did read the Tomrrow series, and i have huge respect for John Marsden and everyone of his books, but this one totally drew me in. I dont know if it was the best one, because everytime i re-read on of the Tomorrow book i think "god, this is the best one." but it was definatly the most real. It made the war seem so much more real than the fighting and violence in the first series, because thats such hero stuff. While I Live is about the mindan and even boring things that you realise the Hell crew were fighting for in the first place. Its such a strange new perspective on war, most importantly the efter effects of war. Read it.

leading on from the tormorrw when the war began series, this book leaves me wanting, which i didn't expect. maybe it was the letdown from the high-octance prequel, but this after story just makes me say, why exactly is this here? John Marsden, as always is a brilliant writer, but I thinkthe story was working against him in this, domestic situations and guerilla warfare just don't suit elle and the gang. sad that half the gang died in the preceding sequel, and Lee left, but thats life. itwas expected. what i really dont like is that the invaders got to stay. really dont like sharing Australia, although if they wanted they could have the desert, or the red centre. nothing out there for them to impact grealty and maybe enough of them would disappear not to worry about. or the bermuda triangle. either is a good choice. but thats just me being prejudced.
in summary, a pretty boring story, but as a lead after from the previous series, it doesnt do too bad, and a good read if you liked marsdens work

Elie, who thought she would return to happiness once outright war ended, finds that she is wrong. deadly wrong. Her parents are killed by people from the other country, raids across the border are constantly done by both sides, and the man who has been left in charge of her wishes to sell her parents' farm out from underneath her to a relation of his. however, Ellie's dealt with war...and she's always been the winner in every battle before...

This book is about what happens after the war is over. Everybody moves away except Ellie, Homer and Gavin. It doesn't have as much action in it, it's more about Ellie trying to get her life back on track. The book is great and it keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole way through. Ellie still blows things up and has people shooting at her but she also deals with losing her parents and trying to run the farm on her own. All in all it's a great book.

as a huge fan of the tommorrow war classics, i was keen as to read this book! however, it really let me down, and i could barely stand to make it through the book, all that really kept me going was the hope for something more exciting to happen. all the farm stuff really bored me too, this book was not very good in comparison to others.

The "Tomorrow series" is the best series of novels ever written, so therefore i was very keen to read the follow-on series. "While i Live" is the first of John Marsden's new series starring Ellie, Homer and their other friends. I was very disappointed in the storyline, so much so that when asked what this book was about i cannot recall any major storypoints! Still worth reading if a fan of previous novels, but not to the true essence of Ellie.
