A sweet story that seemed more of the 19th century than the 20th. (Actually, while I know it was written in 1954, I just realized that I don't know when it was set.) I liked the teacher, especially in the first part of the book. It was interesting to see how he, the intellectual, was contrasted with the fishermen of the village.
