Reviews
In honor of the 40th anniversary of Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar comes the first-ever pop-up edition of this book. When the familiar, tiny caterpillar pops out of his egg, a dial lets readers help him chug across Carle's earthy color palette. Next, the caterpillar eats his way through a week's worth of pop-up fruit, as well as a full-page display of sweet and savory treats, (resulting in a stomach-ache), before his eventual transition into a butterfly. The pop-ups, particularly a half-cylinder tree trunk that sprouts from the center of the spread and a large accordionlike cocoon, are well executed and engaging. While the prominent use of white space lends a sparser feel than in the picture book, the shimmering wings of the pop-up butterfly dazzle on the final spread. Ages 3-up. (Mar.) A good translation of this much-loved picture book. Children will be fascinated by the caterpillar's varied diet and miraculous transformation into a beautiful butterfly.
A classic book, I has as a child and now my daughter has a copy too to love. She loves the artwork just as much as the story, it has helped her identify different foods and even assisted her speech develop speech immitating me reading it.
Wonderful book for very young children. I think I know it by heart! Teaches children about the life cycle of a butterfly and they love to poke their fingers in the holes. One of those books that has stood the test of time.
a much loved book for people of all ages. Children enjoy reading it over and over again and they even pick up the storyline and read along with you. Children really enjoy going through the days and saying all the fruit and food the catapillar is eating and they really enjoy all the different colours through out the book. When they see the Coccon they all say that its the home for the catapillar to change into a beautiful butterfly
This is my favourite book from childhood. I think everyone should own a copy. My friend spent months trying to track one down in Melbourne and it is so hard to get. So glad fishpond has a (hopefully) endless supply.
This was one of my favourite books as a child and my son now loves it as well. He has learnt so much from the colourful illustrations and he especially loves the pages with the food. This book is a classic and an absolute must for the bookshelf for anyone with young children.
A beautiful little story book for children, that is both educational as well as very fun to read. I used to love this book as a kid, and I have to say, that I still enjoy reading it to my own kids today. A gorgeous and simple story, with gorgeous and simple illustrations that are full of colour and life.
This is a lovely book and my son really loves the colourful food. It is great for teaching names of items and also counting, and the days of the week. When reading this book my son also talks to me about what food he's eaten and which one he would like to eat... (usually the lollipop)
This is one of my daughter's favourite books! She loves to cuddle up and go through the pages as we count the fruit and explore The Very Hungry Caterpillar's adventure as he grows into a beautiful butterfly. Definitely a timeless classic and a must for the bookshelf of any child (or adult!)
