An excellent book. Each principle gets a double-page spread - mainly text on the left and mainly illustration on the right. The definition of "design" is arguably a bit broader than some would use, but all great ideas, concepts and principles. Well worth leaving on your coffee table for guests to flick through as well as being of practical use to anyone who (by even a very broad definition) is involved in any sort of design.

However, this is the first edition. The second edition is in paperback, published in 2010, it is cheaper, and adds 25 additional design principles. I haven't read the second edition myself but if I had seen it, I would have bought that one instead of the hardback first edition! The second edition is also available on Fishpond.

This is a MUST HAVE book for anyone working in any field of design. Brilliant!

This was a textbook I was required to get for University. I did a report based on the principles used in this book and it explained basic design methods very well. Although I'm studying Industrial Design I can see this book being helpful in other design fields and for general design interest. Would recommend but don't necessarily agree with the price of it, text books for uni students is a bit of a monopoly.
