I can't begin to describe how helpful this book is. It is easy to read and very down to earth. I have read it twice now(Mum's copy) and have just bought myself a copy. When I was about 22 it began to dawn on me that my childhood was not good to put it mildly. When you grow up with Toxic parents you think your world is normal and doesn't everyone have a family like this!!!??? And when you start a life for yourself you realise that you can't make friends and you choose one bad relationship after another. Also you sabotage normal relationships because you don't understand them and you keep asking why? Why? Why?.
This book is very helpful for people who are starting on the road to self awareness. I mean 'aware' in the sense that you start to realise what is 'supposed' to happen in relationships in families and what shouldn't ever happen, ever!! My mother gave me this book to read as she became 'aware' of her own Toxic Parents and what she had done to my sister and I in turn. She broke the cycle and said it stops here. I love her very much for being very brave as the book talks about the step of confronting your parent/s and she knew that one day I would confront her in turn.
I recommend this book to people who are starting on their own journey. I also recommend it to people who have a friend who they are supporting through these things to understand them better. I gave it to one of my support friends and she said that she really felt much closer to me as she, having never experienced any of these things, understood me more than ever. You will never regret buying this book.

I am a single mother with a daughter and have been having lots of issues with my own mother in the last few years, reading this book actually help me realise that it wasn't just me having the problems I have been having with my mother. As I read on, I can see a lot of situations that apply to me. The book tells you lots of information to help you.

Because I come from an abusive background, and because I am also the mother of a teenager, I have read this book to figure out whether I could find my parents in them, and whether I was an abuser myself. I am absolutely amazed because she is very methodical, she set the scene, explains the problem in the context of the relationships, and gives you the very easy tools to understand where you or they fit in. The vocabulary she uses and the way she explains the source of her knowledge makes it very easy to understand. You should read this book even if there as not been abuse as such, it is very eye opening.

this is a fantastic book. very thoughtful and intelligent. it is not some silly pop word scam book. it just thoroughly explains negative patterns in your life. if you are CONSIDERING buying this book, that means you NEED TO. its everything you could hope for and more. understand yourself and break negative patterns

This book is absolutely mindblowing and excellent! I recommend it for EVERY person I know. It is helpful, well - written, extrememly thought provoking and therapeutic. Love it! Love it! Love it! It saved my sanity and my life.
