Not too bad. A girl grows up with vampires, and the vampire mafia no less, and eventually grows up enough to find out why all these supernatural types are interested in her more than any other run of the mill can actually do some fortune telling clairvoyant.
Good mages, bad mages, good fairies, bad fairies, vampires, wererats, satyrs, or whatever. It seems she is in line to be the uberoracle, and controlling her or having her on your side would be helpful. Especially as she she can do the slice, dice and slay pretty well now, too.

A so-so read. The first book I've read by Karen Chance and I must admit to finding her style of writing a little difficult to get into. All in all, the story was interesting enough to keep my attention. However, I thought it was marred by long-winded paragraphs that left me a little confused as to whether or not there was a point when they ended.
Throwing in figures from history was fun, if not ambitious, but I felt Chance used too many magical aspects/creatures at once and had to race around trying to explain their places in her world too often.
I generally prefer reading books written in the first person, but found this one jumped around a bit much. And speaking of jumping, I am incredibly biased when it comes to the whole "fixing time" thing, it can get seriously tricky. However the book was enjoyable enough that I have the sequel lined up to read.
While not on my recommendation list, Touch the Dark still rated an average score if you're looking for something to read to pass the time, not to blow your mind.

Despite a rather confusing beginning, this book quickly had me turning the pages and wanting desperately to know when book two was coming out.
Cassie is a sybil, a seer and a 'ghost whisperer' who's parents were killed by the vampire who raised her. When she discovers that, despite being on the run for the last several years, the Vampire Senate has known exactly where she's been (she's even had a vampire bodyguard without knowing) and who - and what - she is, Cassie becomes detirmined to discover the truth about her parents and her own powers. Throw in the evil vampire Rasputin, a side-kick ghost who loves gambling, and the rather sexy Mircea (one of the Dracula brothers), this is an exciting, enjoyable read that has you zipping round trying to work out just who are the bad guys...and who are the good.

I don't agree with those that say it started off slowly, because it is action right from the start, making it hard to follow at first whilst you play catch-up to what the plot is, but it isn't long before several hours have passed and you didn't realise it because you were so engrossed!
If you like all themes supernatural with every mythical creature you can think of plus some you've never heard of, alot of action, romance and a little humor thrown in then this book is definately for you!
Fast paced and very enjoyable, you'll be back to get the next three in the series.....I did!

An absorbing story that will keep you on your toes.Very interesting and a good read.I enjoyed it very much from the beginning to the end well worth taking a look at. This story is based on a Clairvoyant who gets involved in another world of vampires and mages that will take you on many twists and turns.

As the other reviewers write, the book starts off slowly and rather confusingly, but it does turn into a rather interesting story.
I tried it as I'm a huge fan of Laurell K Hamilton and her Anita Blake novels, this is no where near as well written but was still a good example of the vampire fantasy genre. Its better than some I've read.
Overall it wasn't a bad read and I am curious to see what happens in the sequel.

First book I have read from Karen Chance and the book started very slowly but was an enjoyable if not riveting read.
Not only do you have to negotiate through good mage, bad mage, fairies, vampires, weres and other mythical characters, the mix becomes quite thick with a too fast moving plot it is quite difficult to know what is going on, combined with the overlying doubt on what Cassandra's outcome will be.
Overall not a bad read, may consider the sequel, certainly not one of the best books I have read in the genre.

A good read but not a great read. It is pretty much the same as all the others in this kind of genre but there are a few twists but they are inelegant and need some more thought. but I will be reading the sequel so that says something.

Karen Chance rocks! I love her characters and story lines which are more than your run of the mill vamps. She has so much insight into the politics and workings of the vampire families and I love the use of mages. Her books are real page turners and I can't wait for the fifth book to become available. Mircea has to be the sexiest vampire of all time!

I believe a very popular theme at this moment and maybe for centuries.
I have to say Good Job Kare C. but not the greatest. I enjoyed the fact that
a history job was done and I liked the idea but I found that while reading the paragraphs
I felt like a jumper skipping in time abruptly.
Summary: Good Idea, Easy Read.
