The genocidal barbarism of the Nazi forces has been well documented. What is little known is the fate of fifteen million German civilians who found themselves on the wrong side of new postwar borders. All over Eastern Europe, the inhabitants of communities that had been established for many centuries were either expelled or killed. Over two million Germans did not survive. Some of these people had supported Hitler, but the great majority did not. In "A Terrible Revenge", de Zayas describes their horrible fate. This new edition includes an updated foreword, epilogue, and additional information from recent interviews with the children of the displaced.

I was born in WW2, in Stettin, and was evacuated from Baerwalde with my mother, baby sister and Aunt, just ahead of the Russian advance. The suffering ,especially the mass rapes, the deaths of so many old people and children has been seen as "just retribution" by the rest of the world.German suffering can only now be spoken about and viewed more open- mindedly by the Allies.
The loss of of German terriority,as much an expresion of Stalin's will, and a manifestation of Roosevelt's weakness and impending death, and the ensuing genocide that had no public discussion or debate, were a travesty of what the West fought for. This book meets a need in telling the story of Germany and Europe after WW2,and the rise Of Russian hegemony over western Europe, and the cold war that followed. This is a MUST READ,for those who love History, and should never be forgotten, despite the fact it's telling is long overdue.
