Format:Hardback, 70 pages, 100th Anniversary Edition
Other Information: illustrations
Published In: United Kingdom, 07 March 2002
"The Tale of Peter Rabbit" was first published by Frederick Warne in 1902 and endures as Beatrix Potter's most popular and well-loved tale. Re-originated in 2002 to mark the centenary of publication bringing it closer to the original edition, six illustrations were restored, four that were removed in 1903 to make room for endpapers and two that have never been used before, Beatrix having initially prepared more illustrations than could be accommodated in the original format.

About the Author

Written and illustrated by Beatrix Potter (1866-1943). Her passion for the natural world lay behind the creation of her famous little books. A particular source of inspiration was the Lake District where she lived for the last thirty years of her life as a farmer and conservationist.

Reviews

PreS-Gr 2-Over the years, Hague has re-illustrated many texts that were in the public domain. A number of his books have given new life to overlooked work and have been widely appreciated. His reinterpretation of the work of Potter, however, is egregiously unnecessary. Potter wanted her books to be small enough for little hands to hold. Hague's book is almost twice as large. Potter's book has softly colored spot illustrations, honing in beautifully on the drama or emotions of the facing pages of text. Hague's art is overblown with extraneous details that threaten to overwhelm the plot. His rabbits with enormous eyes are reminiscent of those kitschy, large-eyed waifs popularized by the Keans in the 1960s. If Potter's books were out of print, or in danger of becoming so, one might be more receptive to Hague's version, but they are readily available and hard, if not impossible, to improve upon. Why try?-Miriam Lang Budin, Chappaqua Public Library, NY Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.

Youngsters love the naughty rabbit who is always getting into scrapes and the beautiful but simple illustrations are timeless masterpieces -- Natasha Harding Sun online 20091203

5 of 5 Stars! – Customer review on 17/08/2007

Peter Rabbit is the classic tale that all children will love. It was written by a woman named Beatrix Potter - somewhat of a hermit who lived through her drawings. They were her first love and all she lived for.
Peter Rabbit is the tale of a rabbit named Peter who gets up to all kinds of mischief - and he is a gorgeous character. Beatrix Potter wrote and illustrated all her stories and they are printed in a small size which is just right for small hands.
