This book is a good basic guide to the history of painting. You don't need any previous knowledge in art to understand the content. There are lots of detailed illustrations, including blown up areas of famous works. It is a useful guide for teachers to help students access the work. For those who have some art training, the book may seem over simplistic. As a basic reference guide, you can't go wrong.
