Growing up in a family of girls, I had no idea what to expect when my first baby was a boy. This book gave me some great insights not only into how my son functions, but also into my husband. A fantastic guide for the parent of any boy who is just seeking to help them be themselves and grow up healthy and balanced. It's great to read a book that acknowledges that boys and girls approach life in general in different ways.

I have to say that I am always a little skeptical when I read any "parenting manual". I usually find them common-sense and vaguely irritating in the patronising tone that they take. However, this book was quite different. I bought it for my husband (who now has a son - after 4 daughters) and found that it offered some useful insights into how to approach the growth and development of a male child. It is well-worth a read, and is probably better to have on your bookshelf as opposed to a once-over from the library.

I purchased this book for my son and daughter-in-law as their son is just about to enter his teens and puberty. I could not resist reading the book before wrapping it, and found it wonderfully enlightening.
I am the mother of three sons now all in their forties, yet learned loads and was delighted to see that my husband and I had not dropped the ball too badly in raising these fine men. My principal career was in teaching communication and writing with SPEECH RESOURCES.
Steve Biddulph is an uncommonly clear, logical, enlightening writer on this difficult subject. I could not recommend it more highly, and am thrilled to see a writer who does not break one of the rules of good writing proposed by the great author, George Orwell.
Should Mr. Biddulph like to see Orwell's condensed rules, I would be delighted to e-mail them to him, and of course, his wife, who co-authored this lovely book.
Yours sincerely,
Jean Reisner

I purchased this book as my little boy has just turned 6 months old. I believe it to be so important to raise boys differently to girls... I have learnt this through my own personal experience.
Raising Boys was an easy book to read which gave great insight as a mother to the ways to be develop (not hinder!) my son's development. I was so impressed with Steve's writing, I have just commenced reading another of his books; The Complete Secrets of Happy Children and so far I am reading with the same enthusiasm I had for Raising Boys.
My husband has now commenced reading Raising Boys so we can hopefully assist our son into growing up to be a well developed and rounded young man.
A must read for mums and dads, or anyone involved in developing our men of the future!

This is a fantastic book and I highly recommend it to anyone with a son. It has given me new insight for parenting. Great ideas on discipline without shaming or blaming that assist the child in becoming a great decision maker and thinker.
It shows the importance of Dad's and male role models.
A very easy book to read and very thought provoking. :)

The person who wrote the last review obviously did not 'get' the book.
This book is the most brilliant book I have ever purchased along the lines of raising boys.
The author is fantastic, I have read all of his books and he most definately knows what he is speaking about.
To anyone even considering reading this book - do yourself a favour and DO. You'll be a better parent for it.
Do not, however, worry about what the person who wrote the last review said, as she has completely lost the plot.
Obviously the majority rules - as the other reviews on this book so far are good.

This is the best book I have ever read since becoming a parent to my two sons (and another boy on the way). To me, it reinforced what I already know. Everything was in plain english, I liked that it had a spot of humour and I really do feel like it improved my parenting skills and that I am a better mother for reading it. I borrowed this book from our local library a month ago, and knew I had to own it. Since reading it, my childrens behaviour has improved and I feel more confident.

I found this book very insightful more than anything else, and the fact that it is Australian-based is a major plus in my opinion. The description of the changing needs of boys and the stages they go through from birth to adulthood was such an interesting read, and totally invaluable. You will think more about how you interact and respond with your son on a daily basis after reading this book.
