Just love Stephanie's style. This book is great for the novice and not so novice vege gardener. It is great because it outlines growing tips including timing and then a range of terrific recipes that are easy and tasty without a list of ingredients as long as your arm. For those who want to really make the most of their harvest

Ouch, that's a big price tag, isn't it. To spend this amount you need to know it is owrth it. Well, this one is. It takes you from setting up the garden beds, planting, caring for your crop then harvesting and cooking it. Fantastic recipes, very practical and achieveable gardening ideas, even for old black thumb me......

First of all I was surprised by the size of the book and its cloth cover was 'cute'. When I looked through I thought "great" a recipe book - I wasn't too happy about this price for recipes (and it wasn't even the full price), especially when there was only a small % of the book was setting up a garden at the beginning (this was excellent info for our Aussie climate), so I thought I would browse the recipes! To my surprise there were recipes for each fruit or vege that Stephanie had mentioned, but not only that, it went further into that piece of produce, best time to plant, how often, the soil, the position - WHAT A FANTASTIC BOOK, it certainly surprised me. And to make things better, this book was on a fantastic special through Fishpond - THANK YOU :o)

Absolutely delighted with this purchase.
As a recently retired couple we are keen to set up a vegetable plot from an enthousiastic cooks point of view and this book fits the bill exactly.
We were already Stephanie Alexander fans with a very well used copy of her "Cooks companion", we are sure this purchase will end up equally well used.

This is a beautiful book. The presentation is lovely and it is a joy to sit down with - textured cover, glossy pages, new book smell. Plus the information inside is great. It goes through a range of ways to prepare a kitchen garden plus a recipie for compost lasagne. Then it has produce chapters (fruits and vegies) listed alphabetically. Each chapter gives the gardening details about growing the item, then some recipes/ideas to prepare and eat the item. It is very practical. There are two publications of this book, one published for the southern hemisphere and one for the northern hemisphere. It is difficult to distinguish between the two at a glance, so double checck when purchasing it that you buy the right copy for the area you live in.

I love this book. I received it for Christmas last year and it has become as the title suggests - my kitchen and garden bible. We have used it to help plan our fruit and vegetable gardens as it helpfully suggests the quantity of plants to sow for a family of four. Some absolutely beautiful recipes and very helpful to make the most of times of over-production in the garden - try the fresh basil pesto - YUM...
