Having earned his MA and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Albany, Dr. Jed Baker is a behavioral consultant for several New Jersey school districts where, nearly two decades ago, he organized a group to help children with social communication problems. That group expanded and ultimately became the Social Skills Training Project under Dr. Baker's directorship. Dr. Baker also presents lectures all over the world on social skills training, and is on the board of directors of the Asperger's Syndrome Education Network, Inc. (ASPEN). His work has been featured on ABC News and Nightline.

This book provides written information as well as visual. It is very well set out and the pictures are very clear. Kids can look at the book and identify problems and solutions as well as discuss it with parents. I found the visuals a good way of showing my child the area which they were having problems with and also the right way to do it.
The book covers topics such as how to get an adults attention without being rude, the clues to look for when approaching other children, how to ask to join in with other children etc.
The photographs show the right way and the wrong way to do things, with explanations.
The 'Social Skills Picture Book' is a wonderful resource for parents, teachers and professionals alike, to assist in helping children understand social and other behavioural interactions in various situations.
As a Professional Counsellor (Autism Spectrum), this book will be a lovely tool for assisting children (and even teens and adults) to understand certain interactional concepts and how to respond to difficulties, misunderstandings and how to get the best out of sharing their life with others.
The colourful and sequential pictures and 'stories' are particularly relevent and supportive of learning for the 'visual' learner.
Kind regards,
Louise Page
