For months I have been drooling over this book.

I will quite happily admit to being a cake baking nerd. I especially love baking celebration cakes which is really what this book specializes in, three layers of scrummy cake with beautiful fillings on the inside and luscious icing on the out.

And the best part is that there is no plain chocolate with vanilla frosting here but petit-fours and blue cornmeal with caramel cream and gingerbread beer with bittersweet chocolate and bananas with praline and white chocolate. Then there was the dulce de leche, peach melba and a banoffee pie in cake form.

But here’s the other best part (you know, if the notion of a boston cream pie cake wasn’t enough to convince you)–a lot of these cake recipes are one-bowl. Most of the butter cake recipes in this book use the two-stage method where the butter, all the dry ingredients and some of the liquid go into the mixing bowl at the beginning and after this is beaten smooth, the eggs and remaining liquid goes in. After reading the baking section, I found out that the author believes that this method is more reliable than the creaming method and gives a finer crumb.

The last chapter has recipes for three different kinds of wedding cakes that will serve around 80-100 people… for some reason the cake nerd in me will not be complete until I make one of those. Now I just have to con someone into letting me make their wedding cake.

if you are one of those people that think the higher the better, then you will love this book so much! it has over 40 great recipes that concentrate on amazing looking, as well as tasting, layered cakes. all the recipes in this book have one thing in common - they all have 3 layers. if you love how nice triple layer cakes look fantastic, then definitely look into this book - you will love it!
