Although there is some merit in this book, I feel it ought to come with a warning. The authors are both vegan, and push that agenda throughout the book. I have no issue with that, except that in this case it means telling some of the most horrific stories about animal cruelty and abuse with no warning whatsoever that it was coming up.

I was so horrified that I almost threw up - I unfortunately read one of them without realising what they were going to be talking about, and it's giving me nightmares. This is hardcore stuff straight out of PETA's doctrine. I understand that they think they're doing the right thing but it was not at all what I expected of this book and I wanted to warn others.

I put the book down at that chapter and will not read anymore.

I really liked this book. It is presented in such a fun, light hearted, but serious way. They promote a total vegan lifestyle and are good about telling you what is okay to eat and what is not. I'm already vegetarian, but have been thinking about going vegan for awhile....milk and cheese don't agree with me. This book was very helpful in giving me the push I needed to say, Just Do It, Girlfriend! They have great suggestions for the healthy foods to use to replace the bad foods until you can really pull away from most processed foods. Enjoyable, clear, organized, straightforward, short & sweet!

This book was amazing and it is definitely not your average dieting book.

Since reading it I became so educated about food and whats in it! It's amazing how little you actually know about what you put in your body!

Whats more, since I finished it I have beocme vegan and it was the best decision I have ever made. Not only do I feel better knowing that I am doing my part (however small it may be) but I have also dropped 9 kilos in 2 months without working out! Also, I can still eat hot chips (cooked from home with real potatoes of course), sorbet and soda -- although skinny bitch would tell you to drop these bad habits! I'm getting there!

A definite must read for anyone who cares about their body and other species' bodies. You'll never look back! -- You'll just wish that you had read it sooner!

5 of 5 Stars! – Customer review on 20/02/2008

I loved this book! Yes, it does have some graphic information, but they do warn you that it is coming. It does cover veganism, but is not a vegan book. If you just wanted to get healthier they have some pretty solid guidelines. And again, with the 'horror stories', they are true. It isn't just a story, and you are free to read the book and make up your own mind about what you put into your body. That is the main point of the book: learn how to use your heads. Don't be brainwashed by the myth that you can eat all the butter you want and not get fat. Think. I loved the book, I got past that chapter, not without a few tears, but I got past it, and the rest of the book, too, is fab. And if you want one final recommendation: look at those girls! They are Skinny Bitches! Do you want to be a Skinny Bitch?? Hmmm, thought so. Me too. Get the book!

Skinny Bitch promotes a vegan lifestyle (no meat, dairy or animal products) as a way on losing weight and maintaining optimal health. The book is very readable and really does feel like a girlfriend giving you the low-down on healthy eating.
Be warned - there is a lot of swearing in the book and the authors are extremely no-nonsense in their approach. Some of the ideas in Skinny Bitch are hard to swallow if you are unfamiliar with veganism, but I highly recommend this book and the principals contained therein.

4 of 5 Stars! – Customer review on 19/05/2009

Skinny Bitch was a book I walked past time and time again before I eventually sucked it up and decided to find out what all the hype was about. What I found was that Skinny Bitch is not a diet book. It is a no-nonsense, eye-opening book into the foods that we eat constantly.

There were several points where the graphic detail of animal treatment, such as how animals are slaughtered and the inside of the dairy industry, almost shocked me into not finishing but I pushed through and I'm glad I did. After finishing those chapters and reflecting on them without the shock factor I discovered those industries were something I no longer wanted to support.

The authors do talk about living a vegan lifestyle and while most of it is common sense, another part is Green, and yet another part is just part of being a conscientious human being.

I loved the book. I was already transitioning to a vegan diet but this pushed me there. I felt like the book sassed my rose-coloured glasses off and gave me a good deal of knowledge.

It could have been better with worldwide relevant information. I don't know how relevant the animal treatment chapter was to Australian practices.

Absolutely hysterically funny! The chapter on meat is not relevant to Australia as antibiotics residues are not allowed in Aust meat but slaughter is slaughter; Aust aims to be as humane as possible but if you can't stomach it, don't eat it. (I've seen it ALL).
I recommend this book but understand if you can't live by it!
