Reviews
In this tepid Stephanie Plum adventure from Evanovich (Finger Lickin' Fifteen, etc.), a personal case distracts the Trenton, N.J., bondswoman from tracking the usual group of eccentric skips-the kidnapping of her cousin, Vinnie, who's being held for ransom in the high six figures. As Stephanie, sidekick Lula, and office manager Connie soon realize, Vincent Plum Bail Bonds is seriously in the red due to Vinnie's gambling. Vinnie's also gotten caught up with local mobster Bobby Sunflower in a complicated scheme. Even though her sleazy cousin isn't her favorite person and chasing oddball felons isn't her ideal career, Stephanie knows family loyalty counts for something, plus she owes him for giving her a job all those years ago. So with Lula and Connie in tow-and romantic interests Morelli and Ranger lurking in the background- Stephanie must save the day once again. Evanovich is at her best spinning the bizarre subplots involving Stephanie's bail jumpers, but the larger story simply recycles elements from previous installments. I have read many of Janet Evanovich past books and have been overly satisfied by what I have read. However reading through this novel, the satisfaction has ruined and I dont see the "sizzle" it has at all. Im guessing the majority of readers of this novel would be teenagers. With that being said, one of the most important things in a teenagers life is love. However nothing is developed on this front which was upsetting. "Sizzling Sixteen", is an okay read in some places and would is ideal for a dreamer. Lula is a fun character without a doubt but the amount of fun she is should only be dealt with in moderation. I was however I was frustrated at times by some far-fetched acts such as a Ranger gives Lula 2 cars which she ends up destroying and he does not even make her pay for them! I was taken away from the reality of being 16 - and rather thought I was reading about an unintelligent 30 year old.

I had read all of the Janet Evanovich 'through the numbers' books and so I can honestly say I am truly a fan of Stephanie Plum, Joe Morelli, Ranger, Lula and Grandma Mazur. I really enjoyed this book but found there weren't as many "laugh out loud" moments for me.

The gang are back in the new installment of the Stephanie Plum series. This time Vinnie Plum goes missing and it's up to Stephanie, Lula and Connie, along with the help of mysterious Ranger to find Vinnie and save him. Mooner is back in this one as well and becomes very popular with his 'brownies' with the unknown special ingredient. Of course we also have the on-again/off-again relationship between Stephanie and Morelli and the complicated relationship with Ranger. I was somewhat surprised with the ending and it will be interesting to see what Janet Evanovich comes up with in the next installment in the series. To sum up, I enjoyed the book and it's well worth reading especially if you are a fan of the series.
