What an incredible book! I recommend this book to everybody. Whether you are a health care worker, an employee of Queensland Governmental companies, or just a citizen of Australia, especially a Queenslander! This book should be read by all. We have a right to know what level of health care we really DO have in Australia, rather than what the government portrays we have. When we are sick and require hospitalisation, it is too late to do anything about the health care system! We are in the hands of the doctors and nurses in that establishment, and in the hands of the protocols set by hospitals and governments... protocols which overrule the first and foremost important oath of a doctor: that the patient comes first. My eyes have been opened wide by this book. Hedley Thomas is a hero in my eyes; and Jayant Patel ... well hopefully justice is coming to him in 2010.

Really am enjyoing reading this book,,can't believe all the things he did and got away with,,never lone the staff that just stood back and let him becuase they got so much funding. The book is well written and is a must for anyone interested in this industry it is a great insight

This is an absolutely riveting book to read. I could hardly put it down, reading it in only a couple of sittings.

Thomas provides horrific accounts of botched surgical procedures performed by Dr Jayant Patel at Bundaberg Hospital. Perhaps almost as horrific, is the account of how Queensland health dealt with the complaints coming from the nursing staff at the hospital.

This book is particularly timely as the government is in the process of trying to extradite Patel from the USA. Perhaps a new edition could be written once Patel has been extradited, and hopefully, justice has bee served.
