Martin Butlin was for many years Keeper of the Historic British Collection at the Tate Gallery. He is an authority on JMW Turner and the author of the catalogue raisonne of the paintings and drawings of William Blake. William Vaughan is Pevsner Professor of History of Art at Birkbeck College. He is the author of Romanticism and Art, British Painting and Gainsborough, all published by Thames & Hudson.
