In 2010, Tristan Miller ran 52 marathons in 52 weeks, in 47 countries, across seven continents. Why on earth would anyone do that, you may ask. First of all, he wanted to see if he could. Secondly, he'd lost his well-paid IT job and took the opportunity to follow his dream, in a now-or-never kind of way. Thirdly, he wanted to jump off the treadmill of daily life to see what else he could do. So this is the story of how he did it, and why. This is Amazing Race in running shoes. The marathons had to be official ones, not just any old 42 kilometres in any old country. So he had to get to a certain country by a particular time, as cheaply as possible. And then there's the intrigue of the mental and physical challenge of all those marathons. The message in Tristan's story is that you can do what you want to do - you just need to take the leap and believe in yourself, and then, in his case, run like crazy!

About the Author

In April 2009 IT specialist Tristan Miller was made redundant after his employer, Google, shut its Melbourne office as a result of the global financial crisis. He took the opportunity to change his life. Tristan sold off virtually everything he owned, including his St Kilda apartment, to fund his epic globe-trotting adventure, which he undertook to raise money for UNICEF and Facing Africa. He now lives in Melbourne with his girlfriend.
