This is book four in a series of eight about the Bridgerton family. This is Colin's story. Since she was 16 Penelope Fetherington has been in love with Colin Bridgerton. He travels overseas, and comes home to a mother who is determined to get him married. Penelope is a spinster who Colin promises to help find a husband... and the two fall in love. This is a cute little romance from Julia Quinn.
I have been looking forward to reading this book for quite some time because I have been desperate for poor Penny Featherington to get her happy ending, and of course, she does. The other stand out point about this book is that it reveals who Lady Whistledown is. Neverthless, this book did not quite reach the standards of the other Bridgerton books. I felt it lacked the emotional tension, humour, witty dialogue and even the romantic elements were not so engaging as the previous books in the series which led to some disappointment. If you are new to the Bridgerton series, try to read them in order-the first few are wonderfull-'the duke and i', 'the viscount who loved me' and 'an offer from a gentleman'.
A good book for anyone who has ever felt overlooked or unwanted. Penelope Featherington has tried for years to reconcile herself to a life of inevitable spinsterhood, and has built a secret career for herself in the process. She has also nursed a secret tendre for her best friend's brother, Colin Bridgerton, which suddenly (and unbelievably) comes to fruition. But before Penelope and Colin can have the happily-ever-after you expect from a book like this, Penelope has to come to terms with the fact that he is human after all, and not the utterly perfect being she's daydreamed about since she was 16.
