Lord Dougal asks the detective Tweedy and his assistant Rollo to solve the mystery of the ghost haunting Dougal Castle.

Reviews

Gr 1-3-- Rollo and Tweedy are mouse detectives from America who fly to Scotland to help find a ghost in Lord Dougal's castle before the ghost can find the Lord's treasure. The enchanting story includes many red herrings: a map with a big ``X''; a chimney sweep caught reading in the library; a white sheet in the shepherd's cottage. Then Tweedy and Rollo uncover a secret passage behind a bookcase, and the secret of the ghost is revealed. While some of the words will not be familiar to beginning readers (``mum's the word,'' ``chimney sweep,'' ``moat,'' ``pillar,'' ``lad,'' ``shepherd''), children just mastering literacy will find that the color-washed illustrations, appropriately sized type, and design all contribute to the readability of this title. --Sharron McElmeel, Cedar Rapids Community Schools, IA
