I have used Rick Steves travel guide for Italy and found it excellent, so have now bought his guide to Germany for our next visit to Europe. His guides give very accurate directions for transport centres, hotels ( and we did get discount when he said we would for having his book ) and in certain museums and galleries, a helpful description of what to look for. The Guide to Germany 2010 selects some key places to visit if in the country for up to three weeks.Maps, web sites and other general information is the best I have come across in a travel guide. Friends not familiar with Steves guides, have been suprised to discover how good they are and have got their own copy. He is selective so don't expect to get coverage of every village in a country, but the selection we came to trust. Highly recommended.
