"Rick Stein's Far Eastern Odyssey" is an ambitious journey, avoiding the beaten track and tourist hot-spots, in search of the authentic food of Southeast Asia. In this accompanying book to the major BBC series, Rick shares his favourite recipes and some well-known classic dishes inspired by the fragrant ingredients and recipes he sampled from local chefs, family-run restaurants, street vendors and market stalls. In Cambodia, Rick learns how to make a national dish Samlor kako, a stir-fried pork and vegetable soup flavoured with an array of spices; in Vietnam he is shown the best recipe for Pho Bo, a Vietnamese beef noodle soup; and, in Thailand, Rick tries Geng Leuong Sai Gung Lai Sai Bua, a yellow curry made with prawns and lotus shoots that you won't find outside the country. "Rick Stein's Far Eastern Odyssey" includes over 150 new recipes from Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Bali each complemented by Rick's colourful anecdotes from the trip and beautiful on-location photography. This is a visually-stunning culinary tribute to Southeast Asian cooking that evokes the magic of bustling markets, the sizzle of oil and the aromatic steam from a Far Eastern kitchen.

This book surprised me. I loved the BBC series & wondered if the book could be as inspiring.
Well it is! Gorgeous graphics, beautiful food photos & short colourful stories.
The recipes are simple, elegant, clear & precise in their instructions. It couldn't be easier.
With 150 recipes in all I loved his balance of meat, fish, poultry & vegetarian recipes.
If you haven't dipped your toes in Asian cookery, this book is a great place to start.
Equally it is also perfect for cooks & professional chefs, like me.
This is a great practical book suitable for everyday use, it caters for all tastes.
He certainly has captured real authenticity in the recipes. Anyone who has travelled thru
South East Asia will agree...Highly recommend...
This is one of the best cook books i have, and i have a lot! Lovely bright glossy pictures with explainations of each dish under the recipe heading so you know what you will be eating before trying the recipe. The vietnamese chicken and cabbage salad is so delicious my husband and i polished it all off our selves and the recipe is supposed to be for four people!
Some recipes have ingredients as long as your arm while some are easy and simple. Something for every taste bud in this one. Well worth the buy.
Love this book and looking forward to the tv series. You will have to hunt out ingredients at an Asian supermarket, but the dishes taste great. The slow cooked pork with ginger, chilli and sweet soy sauce is fantastic.
Fantastic cookbook - I've travelled to some of the areas that he writes about and can say that the recipes are very authentic. He shows you how to recreate them in your own kitchen at home - just fantastic. He also gives you an introduction about each country and it makes you feel like you are there. I will recommend this book to anyone who is interesed in Asian cooking. Another fantastic cookbook from my favorite tv chef - Rick Stein.
I watched the TV series & so bought the book. It's a really fantastic cook book with not only authentic receipts but you learn a lot about other peoples culture. I highly recommend this book. Yummy food & fun making it.
This is an amazing culinary journey. Some ingredients a little tricky but well worth tracking down.Rick has out done himself this time. My all time favourite.
