Published In: United States, 15 August 2003
In this third edition of their best-selling classic, authors Lee Bolman and Terrence Deal explain the powerful tool of "reframing." The authors have distilled the organizational literature into a comprehensive approach for looking at situations from more than one angle. Their four frames view organizations as factories, families, jungles, and theaters or temples: The Structural Frame: how to organize and structure groups and teams to get results The Human Resource Frame: how to tailor organizations to satisfy human needs, improve human resource management, and build positive interpersonal and group dynamics The Political Frame: how to cope with power and conflict, build coalitions, hone political skills, and deal with internal and external politics The Symbolic Frame: how to shape a culture that gives purpose and meaning to work, stage organizational drama for internal and external audiences, and build team spirit through ritual, ceremony, and story

5 of 5 Stars! – Customer review on 25/06/2006

This is an extremely helpful book for any person who deals with people - either in professional or personal life i.e. for all. It beautifully describes why people behave the way they do, what are the implications of policies, rules and changes to the existing environment in organisations.

The case studies are real-time and span over different times, organisations, countries and situations - very helpful for managers or HR personell to develop a global perspective on issues.

4 of 5 Stars! – Customer review on 23/01/2006

This is a university-level text-book that I was more than interested/happy to read cover to cover. Real world examples work well to illustrate the concepts they are describing, but the winning feature of the book is the 4-Frame model that forms the basis of the text - it is an effective and easy-to-remember structure and methodology for examining, in a multi-dimensional manner, the behaviour of organisations and their members.

Worth reading if it is a prescribed text for your tertiary course, but also a useful text for anyone new to management or administration.
