"Foyle's War" has been widely praised for its engaging storylines, admirable performances and also for the painstaking attention to detail that gives the series such an air of authority and authenticity. "The Real History Behind Foyle's War" investigates the actual events and people that inform the fiction, and with stills from the show interspersed with historical images, provides an intriguing insight into law and order on the home front between 1939 and 1945, offering a wealth of background information on the living and working conditions of ordinary people during that time, on the role of the police in wartime and the crimes on which the plotlines of "Foyle's War" are based. This edition has been updated to include series six, and the new series seven, due on television in 2010.

If you enjoyed the series, chances are you would enjoy the opportunity to delve a little deeper with this book. The outline gives all the details really, a large part of the book (96/167 pages) is devoted to exploring wartime Britain, following each episode in the series. Of necessity, a synopsis of the episode is given, and placed in the context of real-life events, however the author manages to give just enough detail to allow further discussion, and the outcome of the episode is generally not elucidated.
Recommended for fans of the series, even if you know a lot about the major military events.
