Conspiracies and treachery beset the realm of the Demons in this third volume (after Rise of a Merchant Prince) of Feist's immensely popular Serpentwar Saga. Pug the magician and his allies, including the sorcerer Macros, have to cross a good part of the cosmos to fight the Demon King on his own ground. Erik von Darkmoor, meanwhile, becomes a married man and a senior officer in the hosts of beleaguered Krondor, while his trader friend Rupert Avery has both woman and money troubles. As usual, Feist makes relentless use of classic fantasy elements. He also employs a vivid imagination. In Krondor, troops do not, as they do in too much other fantasy fiction, spring up at an author's command. Money needs to be raised and troops need to be trained. Feist's depiction of the fall of Krondor is grim and gripping. But against these virtues lean a pedestrian use of language and antiquated images of women. As high fantasy, this isn't state of the art, but it is commercially adept and should sell well. 100,000 first printing; author tour. (Apr.)

Invasion preparation.
Things are a bit worse than they seem as the Dark Queen is really a demon in disguise, and a large army is heading Erik's way as he desperately tries to train enough men to do something about it.
Roo is involved in high level economic issues, and even more importantly on the magic front, Pug and Tomas have to find Macros the Black if they are going to have any hope of stopping what is coming to Sethanon and the Lifestone.
serving their land through war and turmoil a loyal soldier and a wealthy merchant will be caught up again in the dark forces that seek to destroy their world, an old powerful and ancient evil has come into the world and seeks to destroy everything in it. The kingdom must fight once again against power beyond their reckoning, lots of action and big war scenes, this is an exciting edge of your seat book. Raymond E Feist is a master in writing fantasy stories and he has not failed here. A must read.
Feist is absolutely fantastic. He is undoubtedly the leader of the fantasy genre. His characters are so amazingly realistic and his made-up narrative world so strong that it is easy to get lost in the story. Fantastic book by a fantastic author! You can’t go wrong with Raymond E Feist- sure some of his series are better than others, but they’re all good.
