This is the indispensable compendium of popular misconceptions, misunderstandings and common mistakes culled from the hit BBC show, "QI". The noticeably stouter "QI Book of General Ignorance" sets out to show you that a lot of what you think you know is wrong. If, like Alan Davies, you still think the Henry VIII had six wives, the earth has only one moon, that George Washington was the first president of the USA, that Bangkok is the capital of Thailand, that the largest living thing is a blue whale, that Alexander Graeme Bell invented the telephone, that whisky and bagpipes come from Scotland or that Mount Everest is the world's tallest mountain, then there are at least 200 reasons why this is the book for you.
About the Author
John Lloyd has a broadcasting background. As a radio producer he devised The News Quiz and To the Manor Born before moving to television to start Not the Nine O'Clock News, Spitting Image, and Blackadder. If pressed, he'd concur with Heraclitus: 'abundance of knowledge does not teach men to be wise.' John Mitchinson is from the world of books. The original Marketing Director of Waterstone's, he became Managing Director of Cassell, where he published The Beatles, Michael Palin and Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable. He's with Einstein: 'There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.'

Well, the entries are the usual and debunking "urban myths". Some entries are a bit 'iffy' and may need modification. If only I can find the original references- and not on the Net- I will suggest some changes. The authors invite you to correct them with references if deemed necessary. I think I read too much trivia and am pedantic myself. It is a great read, if you can't concentrate on long snetences such as in 'War and Peace'. Recommended for the insomniac.
It was very interesting to realise that what you thought was Fact was very much fiction. It was set out in a good way so you could just dip into the book for 5 minutes or an hour. I would reccommend this book as a good Man's gift.
