Nancy Newton Verrier firmly believes that once a child is removed from their brithmother's care that a wound exists that can never properly heal. The author reflects on her own experience of adoptive parenting throughout the book, and gives examples from her own life. The book is quite "heavy" reading, and it can be difficult to hear what the author has to say, but it is a good resource for adoptive parents and those working with adoptive families.
This was a book giving an understanding of the effects on an adopted child being taken away from its birth mother and placing it in a foreign environment not hearing a familair voice or sounds. My adoptwed daughter found it answered many questions of her feelings that she had not knowing why she felt that way. It has helped her understand why she acts in certain ways respomding to her feelings that are opposite to what I would hae taught her.
If you are adopted or are bringing up an adopted child this book is A MUST HAVE! Very easy to understand and full of valid information. This book helped understand some things I wondered about myself greatly. Nancy Verrier has her own website (www.nancyverrier.com) and a sample page or two of this book is there to read to give you an example of what the book is about.
