A timeless classic. Elizabeth's lively wit and sharp insights, Jane's sweetness and calm optimism, the younger sisters' amusing conversation, the mother's silliness, the father's wry responses to all the women in his life... a perfect combination of entertaining characters even when the setting is just a family dinner! I love the way the reader starts off disliking Mr Darcy as much as Lizzy does, only to realise by the end of the story that their being together is the best thing that could happen... without really knowing when the change occurred! A brilliant novel and one that anyone with any sort of interest in classics should read at least once!

While many people rely on the BBC adaptation, or even the newer film, in order to know the story of Mr Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet, it is definately worth reading the novel in order to fully appreciate the quirks and asides Austen adds.
A book to laugh over and cry over, best read while curled up with hot chocolate and a fire (or a duvet will suffice).

If you want to feel all fuzzy and tingly for 400 hundred pages, then this book is highly recommended. Like all true romance novels, it doesn’t require you to think too much. Austen’s subtle social commentary is narrow and restricted, with her criticisms of the social hierarchy of her era being limited to the upper-middle classes upwards. The feminist element of the novel is grossly exaggerated. Any novel which is entirely preoccupied with advantageous marriages and ends with the heroine marrying an extremely wealthy man cannot possibly be considered a feminist novel. Elizabeth wins Darcy’s respect with her charming wit and lively intellect – how most agreeably quaint!

I love this book. Growing up I was a devuot fan of the movie but the book is so much better even if I dont get to look at Mark Darcy while im reading it. Its definely one for the girls. I find it so much better than many of the others written i this time about love and family. I grew up as the only girl and its interesting to read about the goings on of such a large family of girls the characters are all so strong and diverse which is nice compared to many books I have read. A classic that you will keep for many years to come.

I love this book! It really deserves its status as a classic of the English language.
Austen's writing flows along beautifully and is absolutely charming, as is the story!
It's important that this novel is not classified as chick lit or romance (although it does share elements of both those genres, including plenty of great humour :) ), as it operates on a deeper level than that - Austen offers analysis and criticism of her society, its hierarchies and women's place within it.
The deeper you delve into this novel, the more you get out of it! I studied it relentlessly in VCE and still love it!
I recommend putting this on your 'must read before I die' list!!

This is a wonderful novel. Austen has an extraordinary perception th at allows her to make a fascinating tale out of a really quite pedestrian story. Real people in ordinary situations are what she does best, better than anyone else. 'Pride and Prejudice' deserves it's place as one of the most popular classic novels of all time.
