After reading this book, I changed my diet to a strictly plant-based diet after a lifetime of eating animal products and oils. For me this book was life changing, in just a few months I lost weight and felt a lot better. It took years for doctors and scientists to prove that smoking is bad for your health, now there is a growing body of evidence that an animal and oil based diet can markedly increase risk of heart disease.

This is a third book on the subject of arresting and reversing heart disease I have read so far (the other two are written by dr. Dean Ornish and dr. Richard M. Fleming). It gave me clear explanations to many questions I had about the nature of artery inflammation and what type of food contributes hardening of arteries.

If you want to follow the diet recommended by dr. Esselstyn you definitely need support from your spouse (or partner). I have completed first 5 weeks after switching to this diet and I am feeling much better then before. I believe it is important to talk to your doctor about the diet and to take supplements (such as vitamin B12, D and calcium), as recommended in the book and to have regular blood tests.

If you are a person who seeks an alternative to (or wants to avoid further) invasive procedures such as angioplasty or heart bypass, reading this book is a must.
